This Oak Spiral made from American Oak that has been charred so is an amazing way to add the flavours, colour and tannins from oak into a wine, spirit, cider or even a beer without the need for an oak barrel.

The Charred American Oak Spiral has been torched to give those earthy tones your get in spirits like whisky and brandy!

The Charred American oak spiral is designed to be used post fermentation.  You simply drop the oak spiral into your demijohn or carboy and leave to infuse.  Just like putting your wine or spirit into an oak barrel, but just in reverse.  The unique spiral design means it has a huge surface area that comes into contact with your liquor.  

Use with white wines and red wines like Chardonnay and Merlot with care, you can achieve that gorgeous toasted oak flavour by adding to the wine after it has finished fermentation.  once you have cleared your wine, just drop in 1 or 2 spirals and leave for 1-2 weeks for the oak flavours to infuse.  Once infusion has finished, just swill off the spiral and leave to dry, then use again on your next wine.  The flavours from the previous wine will also be imparted into the new wine adding extra flavour and complexity to your wine.

Use with your own distilled spirit, or even with a flavourless spirit (like vodka) to turn it into a Bourbon or a Brandy.  Just drop one or 2 oak spirals into a demijohn of spirit, seal and leave to infuse and take the colour and flavours of the oak.  Once infusion has finished, just swill off the spiral and leave to dry, then use again on your next spirit.  The flavours from the previous infusion will also be imparted into the new spirit adding extra flavour and complexity.

After use, you can scorch it again using a blow torch.

The spirals are 20cm long and 2.5cm in diameter.

2 oak spirals are sufficient for up to 23 litres. If you have a smaller batch, you can use 1 or even cut it in half and use just a half. 

Leave the spirals in the liquor for 3-6 weeks for wines, ciders and beers.  Leave even longer for spirits.  It's up to you how strong you want the oak flavours.
